Answer: Medicaid is a program for medical-care coverage to the indigent. Eligibility for Medicaid is determined based upon the assets and income of the applicant and applicant spouse. Medicaid provides long term care benefits to those who qualify both medically and financially as Nursing Home Care.
Medicare is an entitlement program based on whether a worker or their spouse paid adequately into the system during their lifetime. Medicare generally covers hospitalization, durable medical equipment, hospice, and doctor’s visits.
Medicare will pay for only 20 days of nursing home care after hospitalization. It can cover an additional 80 days, but only after the individual has paid a daily co-payment. Medicare will not pay for nursing service after 100 days , no matter what.
